Creating Calm and Celebrating Neurodiversity – Our Donation to Aireys Inlet Primary School’s “Neurodiverse Universe” Project

At Nana’s Weighted Blankets, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to feel safe, supported, and empowered in their learning environment. That’s why we were so excited to support the Neurodiverse Universe Library Project at Aireys Inlet Primary School, a beautiful initiative that’s building an inclusive, sensory-friendly space for students of all abilities.

As a small Australian business that handmakes weighted blankets, toys, and sensory aids, we know just how powerful these tools can be – especially for neurodiverse children navigating the busy world of school. When we heard about this project, we knew we wanted to help in a meaningful way. And we’re proud to say we’ve donated a selection of weighted items to help create a calm, welcoming space for all.

What We Donated

To support this project, we gifted:

4 Medium Weighted Lap Blankets, each designed with a unique and engaging print:

• Rainbow Swirls – bright and joyful, this design radiates positivity
• Blue Gold Flowers – a calming pattern inspired by nature and elegance
• Jazzy Cats – fun, quirky, and full of personality (perfect for curious minds!)
• Women Collecting Water Yellow – a meaningful and culturally rich design that encourages reflection and storytelling

Each lap blanket is handmade using 100% cotton drill fabric and filled with non-toxic, food-grade poly pellets. They provide deep pressure stimulation that can help children relax, stay focused, and feel grounded during class or quiet time.

We also donated 4 Weighted Toys, carefully selected to offer both sensory support and comfort:

• A friendly Chimp
• A thoughtful Orangutan
• A mighty T-Rex
• And our popular Pirate Dotty Snake, full of character and charm

Weighted toys can be incredibly effective for children who benefit from sensory input. They offer a comforting presence during classroom transitions, quiet reading time, or even visits to the school counsellor. More than just cuddly companions, they are tools that support emotional regulation and provide security for kids who need a little extra support to navigate their day.
